Congratulations, Dr. Trester!  From their press release:  Elliot Trester, MDTCMS Humanitarian of the Year Bicycling to work through downtown Austin, Dr. Trester was intrigued by a small building he passed, so he stopped and went inside. We have been in Syracuse (that’s Syracuse, New York, not Italy) for the last couple of days.  Being on the board of Doctors for Global Health (dghonline.org), I felt obligated to come to the winter meeting, and indeed it is winter.  Some of you were at a fund raiser a couple of years ago when we had the winter gathering in Austin, where Jon Dee Graham was gracious enough to play and provide incredible entertainment.  The weather deities were also kind, and we even had some of our February meeting outside.   It used to be that I didn’t need to plan very far ahead, but being older and taking a handful of pills twice a day (well, it’s not that bad) makes you think a little more.  It also reminds me about the need for health care. Whenever anyone travels, especially to the Third World (watch out Edward Snowden), they always think about getting malaria or some intestinal bug. Although we know it’s short notice, Austin Physicians for Social Responsibility’s and Central Family Practice’s own Elliot Trester will be on a panel discussion after the groundbreaking movie, “Chasing ICE.” Chasing IceFriday, February 8 20137:30pm @ Regal Arbor Theater For more information: The movie documents the rapidly melting ice and glaciers from throughout the Arctic region.  It is the result of a years-long effort using time-lapse footage by environmental photographer James Balog. Tickets are now available on the Regal Arbor website.
